The Stout Shield is the University of Auckland Law School's premier internal mooting competition, dating back to the 1940s and named after former Prime Minister and Chief Justice Sir Robert Stout. Finalists argue before the High Court Bench, with winners going on to represent Auckland at the Bell Gully National Mooting Competition.
John Haigh QC Memorial Moot
The John Haigh QC Memorial Moot is the Law School's largest moot established in memory of Jo,hn Haigh QC, a highly respected barrister and alumnus of Auckland Law School. Tackling complex criminal law issues, the moot is an ideal competition to develop advocacy skills with cash prizes available for finalists.


Bell Gully Junior Moot
The Bell Gully Junior Moot is designed for students newly admitted to Part II Law. Sponsored by leading commercial law firm Bell Gully, it serves as an accessible entry point into competitive mooting and a foundation for students looking to progress through to higher-level competitions.
Meredith Connell Law & Technology Moot
The Meredith Connell Law and Technology Moot is hosted gives students the opportunity to debate the ever-evolving intersection of technology and the law. It is one of the newer additions to our competition calendar, offering students exposure to a rapidly developing area of legal practice in partnership with one of New Zealand's leading law firms.


Justice Sir Robert Chambers Memorial Moot
The Justice Sir Robert Chambers Memorial Moot is our foremost moot for first-year students, established by Lady Deborah Chambers KC in memory of her late husband, Justice Sir Robert Chambers, a Supreme Court Judge and alumnus of Auckland Law School.
Simpson Grierson Social Issues Moot
The Simpson Grierson Social Issues Moot is our inter-university competition for Part II students and above. Sponsored by Simpson Grierson. The event focuses on contemporary, socially relevant, public law problems rather than traditional topics. It brings together teams from UoA, AUT, and Waikato, aiming to make high-level advocacy more accessible and diverse.
